Marble flooring is beautiful, but it can be very hard to care for. This elegant flooring option requires special attention to maintain the glorious look for many years. Below, you will find out how to care for your marble flooring and remove stains to keep it looking as stunning as you hope for several years.
Keeping the dust and dirt off of your marble floor is essential to keeping it and the grout looking beautiful. If you were to neglect the sweeping responsibilities, the dust and dirt will build up in the grout and can cause the marble to become scratched as the debris is drug across it.
For best results, use a dust mop to sweep the floor. Bristle brooms will not capture all of the dust and dirt and can actually do more harm than good. A dust mop will catch all of the dust and dirt and buff the floor at the same time.
Clean the Marble
There is no need to go out and spend a fortune on the cleaning products made for marble flooring. The only thing you really need is a few drops of liquid dish soap in a bucket of hot water. Don't use a string mop to mop the floor – instead, use a flat mop with a microfiber cover or hand clean it.
For best results, purchase two flat mops – one for washing and one for drying and multiple covers. Clean the floor in small sections immediately drying it with the dry flat mop. Once the cover gets damp, switch it out for a fresh dry cover.
Tip: While cleaning the floor, watch for stains. Mark those stains with a penny so that you can easily come back and treat them once you have cleaned the entire floor.
Stains can be difficult to remove. Baking soda and water can make it a little easier for you.
Mix the backing soda and water together to create a paste.
Coat the stain with the mixture and cover it with plastic wrap – tape it in place using painter's tape. Poke a hole in the plastic wrap to allow the moisture to escape.
Let the paste work for a day or two. Once the paste is dry, use a toothbrush to brush the paste away. If the stain persists, repeat the process. Stubborn stains can require a few treatments before the stains are gone, but eventually, they will disappear.
